Our Services
AHOCI provides mental health services to children ages 6-17 who are part of the SED population, through contracts with DMHA, Medicaid, and Choices CCS. AHOCI also provides skill building and mental health services to individuals and families involved with DCS. We strive to build stronger emotional balance and life skills for the success of each family we partner with.
Habilitation
Habilitation is a supportive service offered through Indiana’s Children’s Mental Health Wraparound (CMHW) and Children’s Mental Health Initiative(CMHI) programs. It is designed to help children and teens with serious emotional disturbances (SED) learn and develop important life skills that support emotional well-being and daily functioning.
This service is provided in the home and community by trained professionals who work directly with the child to:
Develop daily living skills – such as hygiene routines, time management, and personal responsibility
Improve emotional regulation – helping the child recognize feelings and respond in healthy, productive ways
Encourage independence – teaching skills that promote confidence and self-reliance
Reinforce positive behaviors – building consistency and structure in daily habits
Strengthen communication – supporting respectful expression of thoughts, needs, and boundaries
Habilitation is not just about managing symptoms—it’s about helping each child build lasting skills that support long-term success at home, in school, and in the community. This service is individualized based on the child’s unique needs, and it plays a key role in helping them reach their personal goals and live a fuller, more empowered life.
Skills Training and Development
Skills Training and Development is a vital support service offered through the Children’s Mental Health Initiative (CMHI). This service focuses on helping children and adolescents (ages 6–17) with serious emotional disturbances (SED) build practical skills that promote emotional growth, positive behavior, and everyday functioning.
Our trained staff work one-on-one with children in their home and community to teach and strengthen skills in areas such as:
Emotional regulation – Learning how to manage strong feelings in healthy ways
Social skills – Practicing positive interactions, communication, and relationship-building
Problem-solving – Developing strategies to handle everyday challenges
Daily living skills – Improving routines, personal care, organization, and responsibility
Coping techniques – Building healthy responses to stress, anxiety, or anger
The goal is to empower each child with tools they can use in real life—at home, in school, and in the community. Through consistent support and practice, children can gain confidence, increase independence, and work toward long-term emotional and behavioral success.
Family Support and Training
Family Support Training is a key part of the Children’s Mental Health Wraparound (CMHW) and Children’s Mental Health Initiative programs. It’s designed to help parents, caregivers, and family members build the skills and knowledge they need to support a child with serious emotional or behavioral challenges.
Through this service, trained professionals work directly with families to provide:
Education about mental health needs – helping families better understand their child’s diagnosis and behaviors
Parenting strategies – offering tools to manage challenging behaviors, set healthy boundaries, and build routines
Emotional support – creating a safe space for families to talk, ask questions, and feel heard
Crisis planning and problem-solving – preparing families to respond effectively when challenges arise
Advocacy and resource connection – helping caregivers navigate schools, community supports, and mental health systems
Family Support Training is all about strengthening the entire family system. When families feel informed, supported, and empowered, children are more likely to succeed in their treatment and daily life. This service is personalized to meet each family’s unique needs and plays a vital role in the wraparound approach to care.
Supervised Parenting Time
At AHOCI, we believe that maintaining connections between children and their families is essential for emotional well-being and long-term stability. Our Supervised Parenting Time services support safe, structured visits between children and their parents, siblings, or other court-ordered participants when families have been separated due to concerns such as abuse, neglect, or juvenile probation involvement.
We work closely with referring workers and the Child and Family Team (CFT) to develop individualized Visitation Plans that prioritize child safety while nurturing parent-child relationships. Visits are held in home-like settings whenever possible and consider the needs of children, caregivers, and transportation logistics.
Our trained staff supervise each visit, providing coaching, modeling positive parenting, and intervening when necessary to ensure safety. We offer different levels of supervision—Standard, Enhanced, and Therapeutic—to meet each family’s unique needs.
Our goals are to:
Ensure regular, meaningful contact between children and their families
Strengthen parents' ability to care for and connect with their children
Support informed decisions about reunification and permanency through timely, accurate documentation
Through compassionate guidance and consistent oversight, we help families move toward healing, stability, and, when possible, reunification.
Home-Based Casework
Our Home-Based Family Centered Casework services provide intensive, in-home support to families involved with the Department of Child Services (DCS), Juvenile Probation, or adoptive families facing crisis. Whether working to prevent placement, support reunification, or stabilize post-adoption transitions, our goal is to strengthen families and promote child safety and well-being in the home.
Services are high-quality, family-driven, and culturally responsive, designed to reduce the risk of abuse or neglect while building parenting skills, enhancing resilience, and supporting children’s emotional, developmental, and educational needs.

Our team partners with families to create a stable, nurturing environment where children can thrive; whether they remain at home, are working toward reunification, or are adjusting to new permanency arrangements.
Together, we work to preserve family bonds, prevent out-of-home placements, and ensure every child has the opportunity to grow up in a safe, supportive home.

Father Engagement Services are designed to actively support and empower fathers in building strong, lasting connections with their children—both during and beyond their involvement with the child welfare system. We work closely with the Department of Child Services (DCS) and other professionals to help fathers engage meaningfully in their child’s life and case planning process.
These services focus on:

Whether a father is working toward reunification or learning how to be more present and supportive, our goal is to increase their involvement and long-term positive impact.
Because every child deserves the love, guidance, and presence of their father, we’re here to help make that connection stronger and more enduring.
